The villages of Volimes are located about 30 km to the north-west of the Zante town, the capital of the island. The area is relatively untouched by tourism, with traditional architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. The economy in this part of Zante island is based on agriculture and the markets for hand crafted lace, rugs, leathergoods, pottery and other local produce such as homemade cheese, wine and natural honey. The mountainous region offers spectacular views to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia, and the numerous coastal coves are picture postcard perfect, from the steep cliffs down to the crystal clear waters. A boat trip from this region to see the famous smugglers cove is a must, one of the most photographed bays in the world.
