The
Vassilikos peninsula is an area of stunning natural beauty, from the mountains down to the crystal clear waters, the beaches in this area are some of the best in
Greece. There is only one main road to Vassilikos, south along the coastal road away from Zante town and through neighbouring
Argassi, the gradual incline up the mountains offering some superb spots to take photographs of the spectacular views.
Vassilikos is not a resort as such but an area made up of separate smaller villages. There are many beautiful beaches along route and a wide variety of accommodation available on or near these beaches, top class hotels, luxury villas and standard apartments, depending on your price range. There is a free bus service that runs to St Nicholas beach daily from
Laganas for people who love watersports as paragliding, jetskiis, ringos and scuba diving are all available there and are banned in Laganas due to the Loggerhead turtles breeding grounds.
The waters all along the coastline of
Vassilikos are also popular with snorkellers and scuba divers, with diving courses available. A host of restaurants, tavernas, mini markets and shops are available throughout Vassilikos, although they are a little more spread out than the more congested resorts on the island. There is a bus service to
Zante town although the area is best explored with a hired motor vehicle or by taxi. Gerakas beach at the end of the peninsula is also protected as a nesting site for the Caretta Caretta and watersports are not allowed there.
Vassilikos is a peaceful area and nightlife is limited to a few bars and cafe's and dining out in one of the restaurants or tavernas overlooking the moonlit Ionian sea. The area is best suited to tourists who are looking for peace and tranquility during their stay.
