Perched just above Zante Town, Bohali has some of the best views on the island. Bohali is reached by road or a tiny, cobbled back route from Zante Town, known locally as Toe Kondi. The village is set around a tiny square with several icecream parlours and there are fantastic views over Zante town and its harbour from the square. The area of Bohali has been inhabited since ancient times.
The marble pillar outside Bohali's church, now used as a streetlight, was actually an ancient column and also used for several hundred years as a lighthouse by the Venetians. The church itself is actually on the site of an ancient temple of Bacchus and it is believed that the temples of Apollo and Aphrodite, written of by Plutarch were also close by. Just above Bohali, set amidst pine trees and towering over Zante Town below, is the Frurio, or Venetian Fortress. Why not treat yourself to a car hire whilst you're on Zante so you get the most out of your visit. The scenic region of Bohali is tranquil and idyllic and has many villas, traditional apartments and delightful place to stay for a relaxing holiday or short break.
